Seeing the Homeless

When you meet them the fear of them goes away. Most of the time when you see THEM you look away. Some of you even decide it is THEIR fault; THEY obviously are drug addicts or alcoholics. Some of you think there is nothing that you can do; You also are in need. Some of you assume that when you see a pan-handler that THEY are only pulling a scam. Twas A Few Nights Before Christmas

One Perspective

I have been giving my time to DLE Cafe every Tuesday for over a month. I have to admit that the experience has done my soul some good and even produced some new friends. Daily Living Essential Cafe is a service of Love Overwhelming. They have made the front part of TRIHoP available to the homeless Sunday through Tuesday mornings. People can come in and get warm, have access to clean, safe bathrooms, a bite to eat and drink and daily living essential items.

A Cold Night in Longview

It was about 38 degrees and I was busy working in my car when I looked up to find a thin teen-aged girl with a sweatshirt on.

She asked me if I had a dollar.  She spoke in such a soft voice I had to ask her to repeat what she just said.  Then she told me she really just wanted to get a hotel room and take a shower.  She was homeless and she just needed a dollar more to be able to get a hotel room for $58.00.
