Angel Wings Rescue

Angel Wings Rescue is no longer affiliated to Living Ministries and Debra Lawson-Bean has resigned from Living Ministries Board of Directors as of July 17, 2014.

Feeding Program

Since Community House on Broadway’s Board of Directors made the decision to stop offering meals on the weekend to the community, there are people that don’t have food available on weekends. To answer the need for people to be fed on the weekends a group of volunteers have begun bringing food to Victoria Freeman Park in Longview and giving food to people that come and ask for it.

Jars of peanut butter, jars of jelly, bread, fresh fruits and vegetables, bottled water and granola bars are great things to have donated. We have brought 7 cases of bottled water in the last two weeks and will be bringing fresh fruit this coming weekend.

We are considering how we can help to get the word out. At this time there is no contact person that wants to be made known to the public. If anyone calls us we can get messages to people or accept donations and drop them off. People are welcome to come to the park with their donations between 9 am and 11:30 am on Saturdays. While there, they can sign up to volunteer.

Cruise for the Cure

The 8th Annual Cruise for the Cure will take place in Downtown Longview on Saturday September 13, 2014. Living Ministries has been a vendor for the last 2 years and we have sent in our check and registration to join the fun this year too. We will be giving out water for free and answer any opportunities to minister to people as we are called.

Proceeds for this event go to New Hope Cancer Recovery, a local support group that helps those with cancer and their loved ones. They also give money to Community Home Health and Hospice in Longview, Washington and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon and help people get wigs and other things that make their lives more comfortable during their fight.

In the past this event has been facilitated by New Hope Cancer Recovery. This year WE PLAN IT, an event planning company, based out of Vancouver, Washington, is managing the event.

Highlander Fest

We have decided that although we had voted to be at Highlander Fest at a previous meeting, we have changed plans. Due to recent changes to our board and also the raise in cost to be in Cruise for the Cure and due to several recent marketing costs, Living Ministries will not be at Highlander Fest 2014. We will try to be part of this event next year when we have more funds and volunteers.

Pet Love Drive

Since Karen and Summer were moving in the month of August, it was decided to postpone our 4th Annual Pet Love Drive to September. This year, when we contacted Lower Columbia CAP, they requested that instead of telling people that we were collecting pet food and dollars to purchase pet food for Meals on Wheels, that we say the drive benefits Help Food Warehouse. This program helps people that call in to CAP and Meals on Wheels.

We will have drop spots at The Pet Works and The Dog Zone. Donations will be accepted at several businesses that offer pet services. People may also donate online on our website.

Survival Drive

Our 2nd Annual Survival Drive will take place during the month of October. Backpacks, Sleeping Bags, Socks, Underwear, Hand Warmers and other survival gear, as well as money to buy these things will be collected for Hearts For Homeless. We are working on a list of businesses that sell like gear to approach about helping with this project.

Christmas JOY Telethon

Our 4th Annual Christmas JOY Telethon will take place on the 2nd weekend in December. We will have the event at The Electric Bean. Summer will double check other details to report at our next meeting. She plans to ask Paul Mauer to help us line up acts for the event that will be streamed live on http://christmasjoytelethon.com.

Proceeds from this event will be split among Living Ministries, Hearts For Homeless and Canz 4 Toyz. Last year some of the proceeds went directly to 2 families in our community.

We have decided to look for help in applying for 501(c)3 status. Our status will be shared with Affiliate Ministries in order to be able to offer tax benefits to donors. We hope to have things in order before Christmas JOY Telethon 2014.

Bylaws

There are several changes that must be made to our Bylaws, especially the mission statement section, since we have changed it and sections that must be developed in order to communicate with our community and Board of Directors what Living Ministries does and the standard we hold ourselves too. It was decided that the Bylaw Review Committee should assess our Bylaws annually. The committee has been working on updates and hopes to have the new Bylaws voted in soon; probably in a virtual committee meeting later this week.

Finances

In the last few months we are excited to see that Hearts For Homeless has begun getting regular donations from one new person and Living Ministries has 2 new people who have begun making monthly donations. This is very exciting because we will be able to make a greater impact on the community with more resources.

Living Ministries has participated in the Black Bears Game Passes Fundraiser for 3 years. This is the first year that we did not sell all our passes. This was not a successful fundraiser this year and we did not make a profit to share with the Affiliate Ministries this year.

Affiliate Building

No representatives from Hearts For Homeless were present to make a report at this meeting. We have not been able to reach Lynn Brown for comment. We will be praying for her family.

No representative from Canz 4 Toyz was available to make a report at this meeting. Several family members were ill.

Karen and Summer were able to help with the booth Canz 4 Toyz has annually during the Terry/Taylor Garage Sale. Three Rivers Christian School allows them to use a portion of their parking lot to sell water, soda and snacks. They were able to use the new banners and flyers and business cards we helped them with this year and many people were approached and educated about their mission. It was a great day.

Ministry Time

Linea has suffered a head injury. Jamie has been ill lately and has some medical procedures coming up.

Our next Power Meeting will be held on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at our usually time and place. All are welcome. Organizations that would like a spot on our agenda to communicate what they do and educate us on any needs they have, should call 360-610-7778 and talk to our Executive Director, Summer.

Meeting Adjourned around 7:30 pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
Summer D Clemenson
Living Ministries Executive Director
